The Beauty of Florence, Italy

Florence,  Italy     Firenze
One of my favorite places is Florence because it is an ancient city filled with the sound of these incredible bells ringing in Giotto's Bell Tower.
Known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
This city was established by Lucius Cornelius Sulla in 80 BC as a settlement
for his veteran soldiers.
Once the capital city of Italy, this region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence is
located on the banks of the River Arno.  It is a city that is known for its history and importance in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The bridges of Florence
Bridges were a major link in the medieval street plan of Florence.

Ponte Vecchio (Italian for old bridge)
is the oldest bridge in Florence.  It is a Medieval stone arch bridge over the Arno River.  Documents show the bridge first appeared in 996.  It was destroyed by a flood in 1117 and 1333. The bridge was rebuilt in 1345.   Numerous shops for jewelers, art dealers and other merchants have been built along the bridge.
The Bridge of Gold
Ponte Vecchio is referred to the Bridge of Gold because of the glow
at night from all the goldsmith shops. Tourist stroll around the
streets and various shops.  The River Arno flows below the ancient bridge
and its shops atop the stone structure become magical.

Italy is known for its handmade leather.
